立冬是二十四节气之一，在每年的11月7日或8日。这一天的到来，意味着冬季自此开始，河流开始结冰。立冬不仅是一个节气，在我国的很多地方也被当做重要的节日来庆祝。
Lidong, also called Start of Winter, which is one of the 24 solar terms in China, is on Nov. 7th or 8th of each year. The arrival of this day means that the winter begins here, and some rivers start to freeze. Lidong is not only a solar term, but also celebrated as an important festival in many places in China.
🐧 立冬的民俗 Customs of Lidong
秋收冬藏。立冬也寓意着享受丰收，休养生息。在古代，人们会举办祭祀仪式来祈求来年的丰收。北方的人们会在这一天吃饺子，还有一些地方会举办冬泳比赛。
从这天起，农民要开始做好庄稼的防冻措施。
There is a phrase in Chinese which illustrates the law of nature: “Harvesting in autumn and storing in winter.” Lidong also means people enjoy the harvest, and nature rehabilitates. In ancient times, people held sacrificial ceremonies on this day to pray for the harvest of the coming year. In the northern China, people have dumplings. In some areas, people host winter swimming competitions. From this day on, farmers start to take precautions to prevent crops from freezing.
